Experience & Skill Loss

  • Level 1-23: 10% flat loss of experience and skills
  • Level 24+: ((x+50)/100) × 50 × (x² - 5x + 8) base experience
  • Retro Hardcore PvP: +16% penalty increase
  • Skill loss % = Experience loss / Total experience

Death Penalty Reduction

  • Each Blessing: -8% experience/skill loss
  • Promotion: Additional -30% experience/skill loss
  • Max 7 blessings: 5 regular + Blood of the Mountain + Heart of the Mountain
  • Blessings 6-7 only reduce XP/skill loss, not item loss

Blessing Types

  • Regular Blessings (1-5): Reduce XP/skill loss (8% each) + item protection
  • Blood of the Mountain (6th): Additional 8% XP/skill reduction only
  • Heart of the Mountain (7th): Additional 8% XP/skill reduction only
  • Twist of Fate: PvP blessing (kept on red skull death, not available on Retro PvP)

PvP Death Reduction (Open PvP)

Reduced loss of items, skills, and experience when dying in PvP if the sum of attackers' levels exceeds yours:

  • At least 5% of damage in last 5 minutes was PvP damage, OR
  • Final fatal strike was from a character or summon
  • Reduction proportional to your level ÷ total attacker levels
  • Maximum reduction: 80%

Special Cases

  • Amulet of Loss: Prevents equipment loss (consumed on death)
  • Red Skull: Lose all equipment and blessings (except Twist of Fate)
  • Black Skull: Lose everything including all blessings, spawn with 40 HP/0 mana
  • Level 6: No experience loss on death (since Newhaven Update)
